Methodology

How we research and compare programs.

Unless a page explicitly describes direct course access, our analysis uses public program materials and official credential references.

We verify exact paths, not schools

A provider can offer several programs with different recognition. Approval, tuition, attendance, prerequisites, start dates, refund terms and the certificate issued are recorded for each exact path. A foundational course cannot inherit the approval of a more complete route by sharing a brand name.

We label approval evidence in words:

  • Approval documented: the exact path is recorded in a current official reference, with a checked date.
  • Provider reports approval; directory check pending: the school says so; we have not yet confirmed the exact directory entry.
  • Additional training required: this path alone is not the full training route to the board credential.
  • Approval not verified: we have no current evidence either way.

Documented approval requires an exact path reference and a current official check. A missing verification is not proof that a program is unapproved. The official directory is the authority for program status. [S02]

Which sources we trust first

  1. The current credential-body source
  2. The exact school program, tuition or policy page
  3. The current handbook or catalog
  4. An archived reference, for history only

A commission page cannot establish current tuition or training approval. When official sources conflict, we log the discrepancy, request confirmation, and keep the field unknown until it is resolved.

Cost completeness

Unknown values are recorded as unknown, never as zero. A price can be a verified tuition subtotal while the total path remains incomplete.

  • Complete known cost: every required line item has a sourced, current amount.
  • Known minimum: some required amounts are still unconfirmed, so it is a minimum, not a total.
  • Current quote required: we could not confirm a current checkout price.

A price whose promotion conditions we could not verify is shown only as a dated research observation, not as today’s checkout price. Optional purchases and a separate board credential’s fees are kept apart from required training costs. Try the cost calculator.

Practical fit and the program finder’s rules

Fit depends on the credential you want, the schedule you can keep, your budget, your weekly study time and the entry rules you can meet. We describe tradeoffs; we do not name a best program for everyone.

The program finder applies published, deterministic rules (version 1.0). Gates come first: a board-credential goal only matches exact paths with current documented approval; paths with required live sessions are excluded if you cannot attend them; a confirmed unmet entry requirement excludes a path. The remaining paths are scored out of 100:

Dimension

Weight

How it is scored

Goal and credential path

35

Full points when the documented path matches your goal; partial points while you are undecided or exploring; none on evidence of incompatibility.

Budget

25

Full points only when complete required training costs fit your band; partial points when a known minimum fits but required amounts are unresolved; none when the known minimum exceeds it.

Live format

20

Full points when the format is known to be compatible; half when you are unsure or the format is unknown.

Weekly study time

10

Full points when the documented workload fits; half when unknown; none when it exceeds your time.

Entry requirements

10

Full points when your answers meet every stated requirement; half when something needs the school’s confirmation.

Up to three paths scoring at least 60 are shown; ties go to fewer unresolved details, then provider A-Z. Missing information lowers confidence and adds a warning; it never produces a made-up quality rating. Score describes fit to stated preferences, not training quality.

Programs that do not pay us

Our catalog includes programs that do not pay us, on the same terms as any partner. Commission never affects sort order, fit scores, filters, which programs we include, or our conclusions. Read our editorial policy and affiliate disclosure.

Limits of our evidence

Our findings are public-page observations and original analysis, not partner account access, a tuition checkout, course completion, or authenticated domain analytics. No course was purchased, attended, or personally outcome-tested. Provider format and workload are not a guaranteed completion time.

Unless a page explicitly describes direct course access, our analysis uses public program materials and official credential references.

How often we recheck

  • Prices and promotions: every 30 days; dated offers expire immediately.
  • Cohort availability: every 30 days, or at the deadline.
  • Approval: every 90 days and before launch.
  • Partner terms: quarterly, or when notified.
  • Guides: every 180 days, sooner when credential rules change.

These are operating decisions, not provider guarantees. A price older than 30 days, or an offer past its expiry, stops counting in price sorting and shows Current quote required until it is rechecked. An approval check older than 90 days drops out of the documented board-path pool.

Corrections

If you find an error, tell us through our contact and corrections page. We review the source, correct the shared record so every page that uses it changes together, and note substantive corrections in the change log of the page they affect.
